Every student completing nationally recognised training in Australia needs a USI — Unique Student Identifier. It's free, takes about 5 minutes to create, and you only ever need one. Here's how to get yours before your first aid course.
What Is a USI?
A Unique Student Identifier is a 10-character alphanumeric reference number that creates a national record of your nationally recognised training. Any RTO (Registered Training Organisation) in Australia will use your USI to issue your Statement of Attainment and record your qualification.
Your USI is yours for life and links all your nationally recognised training — from first aid to trade qualifications — in one transcript. You can view your transcript any time at usi.gov.au.
How to Create Your USI
Go to usi.gov.au
Visit the official USI website at usi.gov.au. Click "Create your USI".
Choose an identity document
Select one of the accepted identity documents: Australian Driver Licence, Medicare Card, Australian Passport, Birth Certificate, Certificate of Registration by Descent, ImmiCard, or a Non-Australian Passport with an Australian Visa.
Enter your details
Enter your personal details as they appear on your chosen identity document — name, date of birth, and the document details. Make sure these exactly match your document.
Create a username and password
Set up your USI account login. You'll use this to access your USI and training transcript in the future.
Your USI is created
Your 10-character USI is generated immediately and emailed to you. Save it somewhere accessible — you'll need it when booking any nationally recognised training.
Already Have a USI?
If you've completed any nationally recognised training since 2015, you likely already have a USI. You can retrieve a forgotten USI at usi.gov.au using your identity documents, or by logging in to your USI account if you remember your credentials.
